A Seasoned, Dependable Wordsmith:
Nonfiction Books and Articles; Apps and Digital Content
While I’ve had a long career as a writer and editor, I still remember when I discovered my love for writing: the “aha” moment came while working on a high school history paper. That led me to journalism school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, to brief apprenticeships on daily and weekly newspapers and at the university’s public information office.
From there, I landed roles that happily enabled me to learn while I worked, whether that was as a technical writer, instructional designer or communications writer-editor. My curious nature searched for satisfaction, and I got to attend conferences and seminars, as well as complete a master's degree.
I’ve been able to do satisfying work that I love, including managing, editing and writing for employee magazines, as well as crafting digital marketing, customer newsletters, app content, interactive training and technical guides. I loved these roles and would welcome an opportunity to upskill or join a project.
Along the way, I learned to listen strategically while writing for executives and figuring out what product managers needed. These skills helped to transform those details into compelling reading. When I began writing and editing nonfiction books for professional clients, those talents came in handy. I was a quick study, able to grasp nuances and efficiently create the focused communication these clients needed. I’ll bring these same skills to your project.
When I’m not writing or editing, I’m likely reading, enjoying equal helpings of fiction and nonfiction. I’ve been a fan of "The Best American Short Stories" anthology for years. Since music goes together with words as naturally as spaghetti and meatballs, I’m also an avid music lover. I make a joyful noise on guitar and bass, with a particular affection for classic rock, folk, blues and jazz. Anything that swings or moves me.
